Improve your carp fishing with the Kaizen Green Spod and Marker Rod from Korda - lightweight, accurate and ideal for smaller waters.
This is the perfect rod for those who fish smaller waters and where a longer rod is not necessary and offers no advantages over a 10-foot rod. This model has a very pleasant playing action and is also perfect for stalking, while being able to cast at a reasonable distance when you need to and is responsive when using lighter sinkers. It's also a perfect option for those new to carp fishing, or for young anglers who find a 12-foot rod cumbersome to use.
The Kaizen Green adventure explained
Following the highly successful launch of our first rods under the Kaizen banner, we continued with a more affordable, but still high-performance range called Kaizen Green.
The Kaizen Green is below the flagship Kaizen Platinum rods, but shares the same attributes and design features that set these rods apart.
Our first foray into the rod market was a huge success, but we also realized that tous anglers can't afford a set of Platinum rods, or maybe they don't need that level of performance and don't fish often, so we set to work on a model that will always do everything you need, except perhaps in the most extreme situations.
The actions of the various models in the Kaizen Green range are almost identical to those of the corresponding Platinum models, the main difference being that they are built with a more affordable grade of carbon. The main difference in performance is that they don't transfer power into the cast to the same degree, don't recover as quickly after casting and are slightly more likely to twist the blank during casting, slightly reducing accuracy. But for many anglers, unless you push the rods to the extreme, you won't even notice the difference.
The full range of Kaizen Green rods - which includes huit different models of fishing rod and two spod rods - has been extensively tested at a wide variety of sites and in different fishing situations, both at home and abroad, on shore and in boats, and has involved many Team Korda anglers who have used the rods and given their feedback on them, to make them a perfect fit. The fact that these anglers were more than happy to use them for most of their own fishing, despite having access to the more expensive Platinum models, speaks volumes for the quality of the Kaizen Green range.
For the Kaizen Green, we used a rapide profile mandrel similar to that on which the Platinum range is manufactured. This gives a taper that runs from butt to tip, and produces a very "tippy" action, with most of the flex at this end of the rod untilelle is subjected to a more extreme load, as when casting. This action improves power transfer during casting and will enable you to cast further using the very fast top speeds this helps to create. Elle also allows a more rapide line rise, which can be a great advantage, while still having enough flexibility in the tip so that the rod can absorb the lunges of a fish up close without fear of ripping the hook off due to an overly unforgiving rod - even in the hands of a relatively novice carp angler, Kaizen Green rods will always be a pleasure to play with the fish, whatever type of water you're fishing.
Due to popular demand from anglers on large European lakes where mounts are released and fish played from a boat, as well as in the UK where people fish on waters where casting at some distance is not necessary, or even for younger anglers who struggle with a 12 or 13 foot rod, we have introduced our first ever 10 foot rods, with three different test bends to choose from, and which will cover every situation you can think of where a shorter rod is advantageous.
To complement the fishing rods, we've also designed Kaizen Green spod rods in a choice of 12ft or 13ft, both capable of throwing even the biggest Spombs and spods - weighing up to 8oz - a long way, and certainly as far as you can throw a baited rig with fishing rods.
Although the main reason for buying a fishing rod is its performance, as carp anglers we also spend a lot of time looking at our rods standing still on stands, so it's important that they look good from an point aesthetic point of view, provided that ideally this also enhances performance, and certainly doesn't affect it. Tous The 12 and 13 foot models feature 50 mm heel rings and a 16 mm toe ring, while the 10 foot model has a 40 mm heel ring and a 12 mm toe guide. The guides chosen are Sea-Guide TDG stainless steel double-leg foot guides, which are lightweight yet very strong and durable. They feature a special ADAMAN coating that is ten times more resistant than stainless steel, ensuring smoother line passage and better abrasion resistance.
In Europe, the 10-foot models are also available with Sea-Guide BXTLSG rings, which feature an even more abrasion-resistant ceramic insert suitable for heavier braided lines that constantly pass over them under extreme tension, while retaining a soft feel for the angler, and being somewhat less likely to be damaged when bouncing around when laid on a boat on the way to or from your spot.
look From a point cosmetic point of view, the Kaizen Green range has a minimalist, bespoke look, with a matt, low-glare blank finish, black whips and just a subtle green logo. The handle is covered with a black Japanese film and its tip is flared, offering a better grip when casting and allowing the rod to be pulled with maximum force without fear of hands slipping. This is complemented by an injection-moulded butt with the green Korda logo. The reel is mounted on a high-quality Sea-Guide DPS reel seat.
Danny Fairbrass is very proud of what has been achieved with the Kaizen Green range of rods: "We knew that not everyone could afford to spend over €1,300 on a set of rods, so we wanted to offer something more affordable while retaining almost identical performance. You could pick up a Kaizen Green and think it's a 300 or 400 euro fishing rod, they're that good."
"The main difference between the Green and the Kaizen Platinum is the carbon modulus used - the Green has a lower carbon modulus so more is needed to achieve the same strength. This makes the blank slightly heavier and slightly slower in terms of recovery after casting, but the action of both rods is almost identical.
"These rods make long-distance fishing and very accurate fishing more accessible to a wider range of people. I like the rods to be as minimal as possible so they look like they've been custom-built, and there are no garish colors or stainless steel everywhere, they're very understated. They're the same rings as on the Platinum, but a three-pronged version, which is more durable and forgiving.
"We made 10-footers for the first time and I've used them a lot to drop mounts from a boat on very large lakes in Europe. I really like them, having never used 10-footers before, because they have a shorter handle and are really good for maneuvering on the boat, and you can get the fish closer to the boat because they're shorter, and they're nicer for dropping a lead over the edge."
"The 12-footer will probably be the most popular and I used the 12-footer 3.5lb and 12-footer 4lb when testing and caught a lot of nice fish with them. They have an excellent fighting curve, a very rapide retrieve, they cast very well and they stay very light in the hands. The taper makes for a forgiving tip but the power is there to cast far".
"With the whole Kaizen Green range, we've tried to bring you the best performing products, that practically tous those who fish for carp can afford to have a set of rods plus a spod rod. I'm extremely proud of what we've achieved.
